NewLife Behavior
NewLife Behavior Ministries has evolved into a comprehensive program to assist inmates in behavioral improvement of not only their lives but of members of their families as well. NewLife Behavior is a ministry of hope, reconciling Inmates to Christ, their families and society.
In August 1984. Dr. H. M. Motsinger (an educator and family therapist) joined a group of trained Christian volunteers in a meeting with inmates.
Over an 18-year period Dr. Motsinger developed the "NewLife Behavior" (NLB) Curriculum-now Implemented in close to 100 prisons in 43 states and 35 foreign countries. In 1994 the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) endorsed its placement in all facilities. 1n 1997 NLBM won the Governor George Bush Award as the best State Jail program in Texas.
With the support and guidance of the Skillman Church of Christ (Dallas, Texas), NewLife Behavior Ministries became a nonprofit organization in 1988 and functions under a board of trustees.
Impressed by NewLife's structure and results, TDCJ officials requested an extension of the program to inmate's families. A pilot effort was launched (at the Michael Unit in Palestine) in 1993 with the help of Chaplain Bill Brewer. Wives were invited to study with their husbands integrating an essential facet of the inmate's behavioral modification... the family unit! Subsequently, FamilyNet has been added to the growing list of programs offered.
In 2000, Christians Against Substance Abuse and NLBM began combining efforts to magnify their impact inside and outside of prisons. A united national conference is only one of the manY ways in which the ministries cooperate.
In July 2002 Buck Griffith was named President of NLBM. The Lancaster office was closed at that time and brought to Corpus Christi, Texas.
Dr. Motsinger works diligently with NLBM overseas while Buck's forus is in the U.S.A.
Ministries 101 actively supports and participates in using NewLife Behavior both as a basic curriculum for our in-prison efforts as well as in the aftercare portion of the ministries.
